FL - New bill could mean tougher penalties for teachers who have sex with students

You do not need a law for this. If they have sex with someone who is underage, you have a law for that, if it's consensual, then the school board should deal with it! And what about politicians who have sex with interns (Mark Foley, Bill Clinton, etc)? Are you going to toughen the penalties for that as well? Politicians think they can just make a law and everything will go away, or they do it to help themselves look "tough" on crime while actually doing nothing.

ORLANDO - Channel 9 has covered many cases of local teachers accused of having sex with students. Now lawmakers in Tallahassee hope to cut down on the behavior by increasing the punishment teachers face.

If the punishments are increased, it would not affect teachers in central Florida who already have pending cases, Channel 9's Kathi Belich learned.

Rep. Jake Raburn said high school student in Hillsborough County asked him to propose tougher penalties because the problem was growing in their area.

_____ was a teacher at Eustis High School when she was accused of having a sexual relationship with not one but two students there.

_____ was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison, but she was released after serving a year and eight months. She also had to register as a sex offender.

A bill sponsored by Raburn would make sexual crimes involving educators and students more serious, with the maximum penalties increased.
- Why only stop at teachers?  What about politicians, police, day care workers, etc?

Parents of students at Eustis High School told Channel 9 they support the idea.

Last year, two local teachers were accused of having sexual relationships with students.

Jones High School teacher _____ faces 20 charges and former Lyman math teacher _____ is accused of having sex with two students.

House Bill 485 has passed through all the House committees and one Senate committee.

Raburn's office said there seems to be a lot of support but a vote has not been scheduled yet.

Oh, yes.. I'm sure House Bill 485 will nip this silent epidemic in the bud along with the rest of the moral decay and social ills Florida is currently experiencing and infamous for. Let's all hold hands, light candles and have a balloon release for Rep. Jake Raburn in our appreciation for his tireless efforts for helping keep our children safe in public schools. *eyeroll* /sarcasm

Florida nuts. I feel sorry for anyone on the registry there. It's ground zero and a test bed for the nation as to what they can get away with when it comes to castigating people. As technology becomes cheaper, don't be surprised if some opportunist lawmaker there proposes "mandatory" biometric retinal scans for all sex offenders, and the rest of the nation will follow suit.

"We work so hard to get the trust of the citizens."

Wow, they're not even being coy about that statement. They know they have credibility and integrity issues, yet they half-way acknowledged it - well sorta. Guess that whole Christopher Dorner thingy still resonates on people's minds, huh? *sly grin*

Consensual sex should not be the same as Rape. The Sex laws need to be changed! We need to stop putting our youth in jail for being teenager. Not mature enough to make good decisions. This should be a misdemeanor NOT A FELONY! Statutory rape also called Statutory Sexual assault 18 PA C.S-2122.1, Involuntary Deviate Sexual Intercourse,18 PA C.S.-3123, Corruption of minors 18 PA C.S.-6301, Indecent Assault 18 PA C.S.3126 These are all the charges that they file on our youth for having consensual sex! Facts teenagers have sex 64 % by the time they are seniors. Loss of virginity occurs in 35% of teens at age 13. Girls are maturing sooner than they did years ago. The cause obesity increased 50% over the last 30 years, lack of exercise, convenience of foods, hormones in our meats and dairy products. Teenage girls get pregnant every year about 750,000 a year. Fathers of these babies, 35% are over 5 years in age from the teen mother. Girls and boys lie about their age. To put someone in prison it cost over $20,000.00 a year. Taxpayers money for each one! Prisons are overcrowded! And when a sex offender gets out they can't fined jobs. They have to sign in as sex offenders so people know where they live. Help stop this madness!

Noticing the shift of the female population resuming the take over of sex offender's law inforcement , on a global land slide should be under the microscope . The scope and intervention should be in balance with male equality as officers also of that sector of inforcement , and not bias to this still uncharted keep this in the budget sector of law inforcement for and on ongoing never ending type of cancer that does have a cure that will never be revealed . Now we know .

It's easier to wholesale slavery to the public by offering an intangible safety illusion mechanism like the registry. All one needs to do is say: "it's for the children" and nobody will be against it. I really don't see how these people, male or female, can feel good when they cash their paychecks knowing full well they're just a cog in the wheel of tyranny. They are brainwashed in their training to think they are making a difference and fighting the "good" fight.
