EVANSVILLE (WFIE) - In this week's Taking a Stand, Vicki Henry with Women Against Registry has a response to our 14 News investigation of sex offenders and school bus stops.

The Women Against Registry is based out of Washington, D.C., but she e-mailed her response to us; Vicki wrote the following:

If we think about registered sex offenders at all, most of us fear them as monsters who have committed terrible sexual crimes against innocent children and are people who need to be carefully watched when released to make sure our children aren't hurt again.

Nobody wants to protect children more than the members of Women Against Registry. Women Against Registry, or WAR, is the voice of millions of innocent women and children who are wrongly and unfairly punished because we have a family member who has completed their debt to society but now must face a life of unemployment, homelessness, and despair. As registered sex offenders they are targeted for harassment and abuse, can't get a job, and many cases, can't even rejoin their own homes. Too many of our husbands, fathers and sons are getting caught up in this registration hysteria even if the offense they committed was minor and years ago.

As the president of WAR, Vicki Henry, says, "In the vast majority of registration cases we're talking about dumb childish mistakes-offenses like public urination, teen age consensual sex, sexting, lewd behavior, taking pictures of your own children in the bath tub, and clicking on the wrong link on a website. Less than two percent of violent sexual offenses are committed by perfect strangers. It is time to stop acting hysterically in the name of protecting children; it's time stop public registration of sex offenders and to start treating this serious problem rationally."

The sex register is not working, It is something that needs to be changed, The efforts and money spent on this , Can be better spent to stop the real ones that do harm to children, Instead of ruining the lives of others!

I now look at a persons age and crime before I even consider them as truly on the registry. An 18 year old that consentually dates a 14 or 15 year old does not belong on this registry. I can no longer trust the registry as it was intended. It should include only true violent rapists and pedophiles, not kids who make dumb mistakes. Heck, they can't even drink until they are 21, but they can be punished the rest of their lives starting at age 18 for dating a peer. Ridiculous.

OMG! F.A.L. is back! And with this article, I cannot add any seasoning that would assist the taste of this pastry!!! And another deserved KUDOS! One thing, I just do not see too many ex sexual offenders banding together to get results. It seems to be a certain personality malady built in.

Yes that is correct in this article. Why, because ex sexual offenders have been so ostracized, they wind up committing "OTHER" crimes not sex related. Ah, but those who make the studies, include this fact in their skewed studies and then report: "LOOK SEE WHAT OUR STATS ARE SHOWING THOSE BAD SEX OFFENDERS ARE AT IT AGAIN." Which of course is an outright lie, but who cares - right?

"Everyone was blindsided by this. I think that is what everyone is
the most upset about. No one knew anything and now it is a matter of,
okay, we have calmed down from the lack of notification, now we want
action. We want these guys out of here, we want them moved out. We
aren't going to be held prisoners in our own home,” said Tony Fischione, protest organizer." "We are,'t going to be held prisoners in our own home. . ." Oh dear Lord Jesus, forgive them, for they know not what they do. This is all I can express with this article and the most inane comment in recorded history. If this comment was not a classic study in syllogistic reasoning, nothing is.

WAR , seems to understand . With all the comment's so far have brought forth a logical response . What we need from war is a one on one with the administrator and founder of megans law on it's process of success on public viewing LIVE on 20 /20 with no editing . It may be able to show facts of the wrongfuly accused . Fact ; Daily News , front page January 31st 2014 . MOMMY MADE ME DO IT . What 15yr old listens to their parents at that age in the first place . Lawyer got there in time ? The preventive traffickers task force did do a positive bust for super bowel week . Were any registerd offenders ? The law thats missing is parental responsibility . Unless its government protecting it self , public assistence , welfare , SSI disability dependency , farther less childern . Expose the facts . How much money was funded for megans law non profit thru the years , and add John Walsh to the list , and why they are not responsible for the deaths on the registry . Keeping people from working and being hired that puts business's in harms way is blacker than black . More offenders would come to gether but are resticted from law to congragate - just like WW II . Keep up the good work Ms Henry - the WAR is here .

They don't distinguish between sex offenders. Rapists and pedophiles are much more likely to re-offend as opposed to those convicted of statutory rape (consensual sex) with someone under 18. The latter have a recidivism rate of 1 to 2%, or less.

What are these people afraid of . Take the protest to Albany in april . Maybe we can get more offenders to meet there from the state and ajoining states and meet this mass of inbreads . They should also bring identifacation just to show they are all paid up on there taxs . If they want real action come down state and see the real people of danger - the drug dealers carring guns pimping killing and shooting children . Do you really think your a prisioner in your home or neighborhood . You can't even walk down the street . What are you afraid of . This is America , the new America . Hows the poverty rate up there . Sex offenders ? really , take a good look at your selves , and teach your kids your the parents .

You know this bill will never come close to passing, right? Anyway, are that many people arrested for violating the SOR loitering laws?

Don't invade anyone persons space . # 2 sheriff Garrison's comparative of sex offender to a serial killer with other statements stated , should be able to carry a gun - BUT WITH ONLY ONE BULLET !

If the registry was being used for the intended (I assume) purpose, then the "hands on" offenders would be the only one's being monitored...
The rest (probably a very large portion) would be free to get counseling, continue with their lives and not be harassed. However, that's not possible in a police state...
Oooops!
Shouldn't have said that...
Shsssssh!
Act casual, maybe nobody will notice...

Not! Seems he did not have the Gojo's to push it. Seems maintaining his position in politics is more important then standing up for the citizens and our constitution.

Yeah, we suspected he'd do that.

Although it doesn't say it in the article, I think most of the RSO's sent back to prison are returning for parole violations. Since sex offenders generally have tougher parole standards than everybody else, they're more likely to return for parole violations. In the often mentioned 1994-1997 DOJ study, which was conducted when sex offender registries when sex offender registries were just starting out, there were far less sex offenders sent back for parole violations. That was was because parole conditions for sex offenders were far less ridiculous back then.

Is West Seneca going to pass a new residency restriction (aka blockade to force the ex offenders to some other town) soon? Cuomo is actually sounding borderline sympathetic to the ex offenders, which is definitely very surprising for a politician.

anonymous said...

Cuomo describes the RSOs as former sexual offenders, which I sure thought was interesting. Politicans never call sex offenders former offenders, because their whole narrative is that RSO's keep offending over and over again and often aren't even caught. I still am rather pleasantly surprised that a politician used the terminology former sexual offenders.

I would agree, but I doubt he is. He's been the one passing a ton of laws targeting ex-sex offenders over the years.
