NY - Police charge 9-year-old with sex crimes

Original Article

This is pure insanity! What's next? Charging a 2-year-old toddler with a sex crime because they touched someone? We wouldn't doubt it.

An unnamed 9-year-old boy from Depauville faces sex-crime charges, including a felony, in connection with an alleged incident involving a 7-year-old.

A state police investigator said that because of the boy’s age, he could not discuss specifics of the incident or give information about the boy, who was charged at 9:20 a.m. Monday with first-degree criminal sex act with a victim under 11 years old, a felony, and acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17 years old, a misdemeanor.

The incident was reported at 1 p.m. Thursday, according to the state police blotter. The boy received appearance tickets for Jefferson County Family Court.

I have to wonder if the judges and officers involved in these cases actually feel any remorse for their actions...
Do they actually feel they are serving justice by prosecuting children for doing things that they may have done in their own youth?
In my mind, if children are to be protected by the new laws then they should be excluded from the penalties of those laws. Anybody that prosecutes them for errors in judgment should be held accountable...
Children touch themselves because they feel sensations they don't understand. They do this in public. Are they now to be arrested as sex offenders for doing something they can't understand?
Children also experiment. This is how they learn...
If a child faces incarceration, being locked behind bars away from their parents, simply because they were curious, how will this affect their future. Why should they want to learn anything knowing that their may be pain involved? And if that pain comes at the hands of authority they've been taught to respect, then the fear will last their entire lifetime...
Does nobody in government think of these things?
