Quincy Mayor Mulling Ordinance Passed By City Council

BOSTON - Quincy is considering an ordinance that would ban Level 3 sex offenders from libraries and parks.

Mayor Thomas Koch (Email) is reviewing the ordinance that was passed by the City Council. It would create safety zones around the city's parks, playgrounds, schools and elderly housing, the Patriot Ledger reported.

Level 3 offenders who violate the ordinance would be fined $150 for the first violation and $300 for each subsequent violation. Sex offenders would be allowed to enter restricted areas to vote or attend religious services, according to the newspaper.

Last year, a similar ordinance was passed in Weymouth that bans Level 3 sex offenders from living within 1,500 feet of any school, playground, day care or recreational facility.

MD - Sentencing Guidelines For Sex Offenders Questioned

This is just tragic, and surely the man (if guilty) will get what is coming to him, but like I've said for many years, the registry and sex offender laws do nothing to protect anybody, but are just placebo's to make you feel safe.

And this story, along with the others the last year or so, are proof of this. Yet, I'm sure, nobody will listen to that, and just continue adding more punishment onto those who are trying to get on with their lives.

No matter how many laws you have, or punishment/restrictions in place, it will not prevent a crime, if a person is intent on committing a crime.

These laws punish all offenders for the heinous crimes of a few, and no other criminal is lumped into one large group as the sex offender scapegoats are. STOP TREATING ALL SEX OFFENDERS AS IF THEY ARE CHILD MOLESTING, PEDOPHILE KILLERS!

Why don't you put all criminal records online for all to see? And I mean all, even those of hypocrite politicians, celebrities, etc?

Until we start working on prevention and education, nothing will be solved. Most sex crimes being committed today, are from those NOT on a registry. So even if you locked up every one for life, it still would not solve anything.

Politicians do not have the balls to stand up against these useless laws, for fear of looking soft on crime and pro-sex offenders, and thus they are not upholding their oath of office to defend the constitution, for ALL! Those who are not upholding their oath of office, IMO, should be fired!
