I may be going through these issues as others are facing with this Walsh Act, that anyone who is a sex offender will be denied a K1 Visa for their spouse. I know to my understanding they do reject all of them from what I've read. Has anyone had any luck in their appeals process? It's rather a sick country when an agency dictates who you can and can't fall in love with. Everyone seems to follow the band wagon and pretty much if all the misinformed liberals had it their way we would have no rights at all. It states if you can prove you are not a threat to your spouse etc. Well I see no differnece in letting a 67 year old vet who has PTSD and they give him the ok to marry a 19 year old. It seems that eveyone runs with the label SEX OFFENDER and it's a battle cry to over punish. It is quite clear everyone wants to wear their version of the "good guy badge"

As much as I understand your being upset and agree that it is unfair I feel I have to point this out.
ReplyDeleteyou said "pretty much if all the misinformed liberals had it their way we would have no rights at all."
That is wrong in MANY ways. First off BOTH liberals and conservatives are all about jumping on the tough on sex offenders to get votes bandwagon. It crosses political lines everywhere because they all know that sex offenders are seen as scum and very few people care about them.
That being said I have seen more liberal groups stand up for sex offender rights. Groups such as the ACLU which have definite liberal agendas are the ones I have seen standing up and saying "hey what about the sex offender's rights"
Please do not let your anger cloud your judgement. If we want to win war on our rights and our very lives this we need to fight against the people who are responcible and not draw political lines and lob hate at one side or the other. Anyone who helps is a friend, anyone who hinders is an enemy regardless of their political leaning.
Thank you for the point. I really never knew who really stood up for RSO's other then my own treatment threapists who gave me good reviews on my character. It will be a long battle uphill both ways. J
ReplyDeleteNothing really surprises me about the outrageous treatment of RSO's, but I am at a loss as to why liberals specifically would be blamed. Frankly in the current electoral climate I have no regard for either party, and the current administration has done nothing to restore the concern for civil liberties and human rights that were eroded under the previous administration. If anything it has doubled down on them to prove that they are "hard on crime." But the current administration is far from being liberal, despite what the right wing media repetitively spews about it.
ReplyDeleteI can tell you that I have a few liberal friends who suddenly will not support my relationship (though they claim to be concerned for my well-being!) because they assume, as do most people, that anyone who has a run in with law enforcement is naturally a bad person. My partner did something stupid that was a totally victimless crime, but he is now branded for the rest of his life, and in many ways I guess I am as well. But for the most part, my liberal friends have been very caring and supportive, while none of my conservative friends will even talk to me anymore! I can't think of ANY conservative organizations that would even consider standing up for the civil rights of RSOs. They are generally the ones who masterminded the onslaught of laws that have criminalized everything under the sun, with unimaginably Draconian punishments, to protect themselves from their imagined bogeymen!
