I'm sorry, but I just busted out laughing when I saw that empty auditorium during the town hall meeting that ABQ PD held. I think there were more people from the media there than actual people from the community.
ReplyDeleteI think this basically shows that the media says "sex offender" and everyone freaks out.
I'm really proud of EVERYONE at this 4th annual conference who attended and participated. Bravo to all of you!!!!!!
"I think this basically shows that the media says "sex offender" and everyone freaks out."
ReplyDeleteI think it's the opposite. The media says "sex offender" and everyone ignores it, as shown by the number of people at the conference.
You know what, you're right...I worded that comment poorly. I guess what I was going for was...the media says "S.O." and the "noise-makers" sound off and do their song and dance. I guess what we're seeing...I HOPE what we're seeing is that these "noise-makers" are shrinking in size and proportion. All the more reason for ALL of us to stand up and be louder and more bold in our quest.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree SOI, I've been following this story (as I'm sure many others have) and when I heard of the town hall meeting, I expected a full house! Then NOTHING! Sadly, I have heard before that "the first thing a crazy person will deny is that they are crazy". The crazies (Val. Park. for example) need to come to terms and realize a) you REALLY ARE crazy and b) most people in society aren't as crazy as you and so they can't support your position. It has been my experience that we (SO's) out number the crazies, that the moderates (those that hate sex offenders, but will never open there mouths, those that if you told them tommorrow that the registry was abolished, would say "oh, that's a shame", and nothing else), those are the GREATEST percentage of citizens. The moderates indifferences and the crazies weak numbers, against a strong, persuassive opposition, is what will ultimately bring about REAL change.
