Round Rock - Round Rock residents are working to change sex offender laws.
They are electronically signing a petition on the White House website.
They want a federal law that requires registered sex offenders to live at least 3,000 feet away from places like schools, parks and playgrounds.
Recently, Teravista community neighbors were notified of a registered sex offender living near Teravista Elementary School.
The man isn't breaking the law.
In Texas - registered sex offenders who are not on parole can live near places like elementary schools, daycares and playgrounds.
Some parents want to change that nationwide.
According to research there is NO REDUCTION in recidivism between states that have these limits and those that don't. So these laws have no practical use. They isolate offenders which may lead some to reoffend.

ReplyDeleteHow is 3,000 ft force field going to keep anyone safe. If an offender really has issues he/she wont let a 3,000 ft law get in the way. What you need to be worried about is who your allowing around your kids. Teachers and those directly involved in your childs life is who you should be watching. This false sense of security is costing tax payers alot of money when you need to be watching our borders
ReplyDeleteBy the way the State Of Texas doesnt follow Federal Sex Offender laws because it would cost that State of Texas ALOT more money than what it gets fined with so good luck trying to get the FEDs to pass a law like that.
