Sex offenders would be banned from driving school and passenger buses under a bill passed by Georgia's House of Representatives.
The proposal sponsored by Republican Rep. Paul Battles of Cartersville passed Monday by a vote of 157-4.
It would prevent state transportation officials from issuing a license to drive school or passenger buses to anyone who must register as a sex offender for an offense that happens starting July 1.
Any sex offender caught illegally driving a passenger bus without the required license would face a maximum two-year prison sentence and a $5,000 fine.
The bill now heads to the state Senate.
So will there be like a special license for those that want to drive lets say a truck for a living? Maybe the state should issue every offender a flare gun and at a certain time each day they just send one up. I believe that there needs to be a focus on PREDATORS not on OFFENDERS which is a big difference. The stereotype is that all offenders are predators and that is simply not true. Most just want to get on with life.
ReplyDeleteIs it not strange that someone with 7 armed robbery charges does not get mentioned when they move into a neighborhood (would like to know where that big TV is going) or someone that has been charged numerous times with distributing drugs (keep your kids away from him..huh?) but offenders that do not have a large re offending rate have to. Can someone say Salem trials here?
This is another ridiculous law. I would get it if it were written to banning someone from drive a SCHOOL bus, but all passenger buses? Why can't they drive a greyhound or a charter bus if that is what they are trained to do?
