CT - Recidivism Study (02-15-2012)

  1. According to this study it appears that the total 5 year recidivism rate is less than one percent.  This is in line with every other recent study I have seen. It is clearly apparent that the concept of 'public safety' used by politicians and the Supreme Court to justify ever-more punitive registries and other restrictions was built on a false presumption.  Basing the need for restrictions on high recidivism rates when former offenders actually have extremely low recidivism rates has pointed out an enormous flaw in our legal system. That is, if politicians and others repeat a falsehood often enough, it appears that not only the public, but the judicial is inclined to accept it as the truth.
