If you look at the articles below, especially the first one, you will see that the fees are $25 for Tier I and II offenders, who have to register once per year, and $25 per registration for Tier III offenders who have to register four times per year which brings the total to $100 per year.
It was told that this county is trying to get offenders to pay $40 per visit, which is $15 more than it should be.
It is advised that you mention the above, and if they don't agree, ask them to show you the law that says it's $40 to register.
NOTE: If they insist you pay the $40 fee, then I would, and get a receipt, if possible, then contact the Ohio ACLU and tell them about it. This is either extortion (a crime), or just pure ignorance of the law. If they are trying to extort money, which may or may not be the case, then they know that most won't object to it, since they may be threatened with jail or prison. So pay the fee, then contact the ACLU and a lawyer.

Registration fees are perfectly normal but unfortunately the amounts are not consistent all across the nation. If anyone feels they are being overcharged, then you can check other counties (http://www.esorn.ag.state.oh.us/Secured/p5.aspx) by calling them and asking what the fee is. You can also call the State Attorney Generals office and ask there as well. No matter what you do always get a receipt for what you paid. Then if there is a question, and if you are due a refund, you have the documentation and simply need to follow the procedure for obtaining a refund. If you do not know what the procedure is, then simply ask where you are registering. Folks need to keep calm and handle these issues as they face them without creating a problem lest you get yourself arrested.

cost is up to each individual Sheriff’s office to set their fees. There is a
cap on what they can charge. They cannot charge more than $25 per registration
and they cannot charge more than $100/year. A lot of the Sheriff’s offices are
not even charging the fees at all. It is 100 % up the Sheriff’s offices to

How
often an offender registers is dependent on what their offender classification
is. If they are Sexually Oriented, Habitual, or Tier 1 classification then they
register once a year. If they are Tier II then they register every 180 days.
If they are Sexual Predator or Tier III then they register every 90
