Employment Opportunities

Since the sex offender laws force many ex-offenders out of work, and they have a hard time finding another job, we are going to start this blog post in the hopes that others will see this and help post potential job opportunities for ex-offenders, or leads to potential jobs and/or income.

If we get enough responses, we will put all this into a spreadsheet and embed it below, or link it on our LINKS page.

So if you know of any companies who hire ex-sex offenders, or potential job opportunities, then leave a comment below, or use the Contact Form and send us any relevant information.

I am not sure, but I think many companies can get tax breaks for hiring ex-felons, but I am not sure if that applies to ex-sex offenders, since they are the modern day lepers of society. But, you never know!

Thanks and God Bless!

It has been 3 years now and I still have not been hired by any one . Even wallmart struck me down and so did Home depot and Lowels and 7 eleven ! Every truck driving out fit has also rejected me I have 11 years of truck driving skills and NO ONE WILL TOUCH ME ! Maybe they should just shoot us when we get out of prison that would be a far better fate than the one I have now ! Try being with out a job for 3 years talk about poor I can not get any poorer ! Thank GOD my wife gets payed if not for her I would be homeless and hungry and I bet ( NO I KNOW ) Dead from staving to death on the streets . But hey that is just what they all want now is it not ?

I had worked for several years at a restaurant that a family member managed. She then moved away and within a year the business started going south.  That's when I decided to open my own business.  Unfortunately, my business didn't last, and I'm unemployed again.  I went back to the restaurant, but there is a new manager that started after I left.  She seemed to care more about partying with other staff members than running a business.  There was food and money coming up missing often.  The main office was sending in, not the district manager, but the regional manager to find out what was going on.  I over heard the manager and assistant manager saying that all missing food was to be blamed on the cooks (which I had just came back to that week).  Not wanting to be blamed for stealing from work, and not realizing it would be so hard to find a minimum wage job, I finished out my first week back and quit.  Now I have been unemployed for seven months, and also have a staggering debt from my failed business.  Every time I get close to finding a job (been interviewed, everything looks good, even sent to take the urinalysis) then they do the background check and I receive a letter telling me that because of my criminal history (a sex offense twenty years ago) that I am not getting the job.  How long do we have to pay for our offenses?  I served my time, I did my counseling, I'm on the registry, and now I can't get work.  I just don't know what to do.  I hope this "sex offender friendly employers" will be a good thing for all of us who have a past that we are not so proud of.

My company offered me a raise after completed my home confinement period (just ended on Saturday!)...
However, they have been screwing around instead of giving me a direct answer (they know full well that I can't live indefinitely on the minimum salary they give me now)...
I've been with the company for over 17 years and deserve better than this (even if I was gone for 3 years -- thanks, Uncle Sam!)...
I was ready to go in, guns blazing, over this and then read the comments below.  Geez!  What am I complaining about?!
Things may be tough but I never realized just how fortunate I've been that, even though the company is not nearly the same as I left (I missed some law suits and the boss's divorce), they were willing to hire me back (even knowing my past)...
Guys, I'm very sorry to hear of your plight.  I sensed things were bad and even experienced it myself before I got the guts up to come crawling back.  However, I am gratful for a new sense of perspective...
I wish you all well and hope things improve...
Oh, and to answer SOI's query above, yes, there is a federal tax break or "bond" that is offered to all employers for hiring an ex-felon (sex offenders included).  Any employer can reference this through their accountant or the information can be accessed online...
Good luck and God bless!

I was convicted 2/99 because my grandson (under the supervision of social services) touched me for less then 1 second. I have had jobs in other states; however, once they found out I was on the registry I lost the jobs. I finished my BBA with accounting, Quickbooks Pro certified, Excel certified, and all I can get is a 20 hour a week $9 an hour mopping job from a company headquartered in VA - I live in Florida. My Degrees are from 2005 thru 2009. Currently going for my Medical Billing and Coding license. Many offers of employment; however, all taken back once they know Im on the registry. An the Bussiness Associations in Florida came straight out and said "They have policiies in place that will stop anyone on the registry from ever working in the state of Floirda"  In addition, the state of florida prohibits state and local governments from hiring anyone who is either a felon or who doesnt not have their civil rights restored.

For many, the best solution may be starting your own business. Handyman or making wooden things like  tables, bird houses, dog houses. Start slow, build up. If you do not have a skill, get one. But be realistic. You not going to be a doctor.

After awhile you will learn that most people don't care about your past as long as it is behind you. (Everyone has a skeleton in their closet).

So stop wasting your time trying to find a job and put your efforts into working for yourself. Its not as hard as you think and I bet you can find people to help if you can show that you really want to make a go of it. You might even like it.

You get to make your own hours. Work when you want. It's great!

Look, God gives everyone a talent and purpose. So stop worrying about who knows about your background and get back in the game. The only one how is stopping you is yourself. It takes a while to realize that most of our limits we put on ourselves.

Remember every journey starts with the first step.

I'm given to remember a line for the song, "Already Gone" by the Eagles:
"Well I know it wasn't you who held me down
Heaven knows it wasn't you who set me free
So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains
And we never even know we have the key"

Look for a company called JD Russell or Dowel bar and basket. They hire felons with no questions. Trust me I am one I just got out 1 yr ago and hired on there with in threes days of applying. I was only out of a job a month when I put in for it.
