KNOXVILLE - A former police officer pleaded guilty today to attempted sexual exploitation of a minor in one case, and two counts of providing alcohol to a minor in two other cases.
Nicky Ray Bryant, 43, who was once with the Knoxville Police Department, was placed on probation for three years, must register as a sex offender, and agreed to permanently surrender his certification as a law enforcement officer. Those are the terms of a plea agreement.
Bryant and Donald Scott Clark, 29, were both KPD patrol officers in 2009 when they were accused of partying with two teenage girls in Bryant's apartment. The attempted sexual exploitation charge to which Bryant pleaded guilty today was related to another incident.
More details as they develop online and in Saturday's News Sentinel.

You filthy boy!
ReplyDeleteIt's one thing when you can claim ignorance of the law (hell, the laws change almost daily so who really knows what they are...), but when you are charged with ENFORCEMENT of those laws, what must you be thinking?
I think it sets an excellent precedent to see police officers being busted for sex crimes since it (I hate this phrase) "sends a message" to the rest of society that everybody is a potential target and almost nobody is above the law (unless you are rich or have low friends in high places)...
Not surprising that he's not doing jail time, though...
Feeling good about yourself, Nicky?
"The indictment said Bryant had more than 100 images of child porn. Investigators with the Knox County Sheriff's Office said they found the images in a search of Bryant's home on Blaine Lane."
ReplyDeleteAnother lucky officer prosecuted locally and not in Federal court where he could be facing 5yrs.+
There are some interesting police sex crime statistics left by one of the commenters and links to the origin of the stats attached to this news release.
